Odenbach

Odenbach is a municipality in the district of Kusel Rhineland-Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality Lauter corners.

Geography

The village lies at the confluence of the eponymous Odenbach in the Glan in the North Palatine Uplands. In the northeast is Meisenheim ( district of Bad Kreuznach ), to the south and southwest Adenbach is Medard.

Odenbach to include the residential places Dämmerhof, Hott Busch, imperial court and the Bahnwärterhaus Viermorgen.

History

In the district Celtic tombs and Roman finds were discovered. On May 20, 841 Odenbach itself was first mentioned. The place belonged to the county Veldenz before he came to the Palatinate- Zweibrücken in 1444. Duke Johann I dismissed in 1579 the inhabitants of Odenbach and some surrounding villages from serfdom.

The local council in Odenbach consists of twelve council members, who were elected at the municipal election held on 7 June 2009 by majority vote, and the honorary mayor as chairman.

Culture and sights

The remains of the pond tower, ruins of a moated castle from the 12th century, castle Odenbach, regarded as a symbol of Odenbach.

The town hall dates from 1570, the stone arch bridge over the Odenbach was built in 1748.

The listed former synagogue from 1752 is decorated with late Baroque wall paintings, the Jewish cemetery was established in 1850.

Economy and infrastructure

In Odenbach there is a kindergarten.

Through the town the highway 420 runs he received in 1896 by the opening of a railway station on the built as a direct continuation of the Lauter valley railway line Lauterbrunnen corner or home connection to the railway network. This section was 1904 in the year fully opened Glantalbahn, but which is now closed. On their route takes place trolley traffic for day trippers.
