Norena is a comune ( concejo in Asturias, corresponds municipio in the rest of Spain ) in the south of the autonomous community of Asturias in Spain.

The community with its 5435 inhabitants ( 1 January 2013) has an area of 5.29 km ² and is divided into three:

Parroquias

  • Celles, 75 inhabitants (2011)
  • Norena, 5348 Population ( 2011)
  • Santa Marina, 9 inhabitants (2011)

History

First document of the place were found around 1920 by the historian Juan Uria Ríu that describe a place on the river rio Norena. These documents date back to the 12th century. 989 gave the Count Gundemaro Piñoliz and his wife, the bishop of Oviedo Bermudo Mumadonna lands on the banks of the Rio Norena in exchange for the church of Santa Maria in Tol. The corresponding deed of gift dated to the year 1103. In another deed of gift from the year 1151 shows that the Landgrave Gonzalo Peláez and his wife, the monastery of San Vicente an inhabited land named Norena ( que vulgare vocatur Naurenia ) give. Here the name of the place is called the first time. Ten years later, the administration will be restructured, with the jurisdiction falls to the adjacent Siero.

Climate

The temperate oceanic climate with an annual average temperature of 12 degrees Celsius (Summer 18, Winter 6.6 ) and the main precipitation in winter and spring time creates a varied flora and fauna.
