Candamo

Candamo is a Concejo the autonomous region of Asturias. ( In Asturias and Galicia Concejos meet the municipios in the rest of Spain. ) It is bordered to the north by Soto del Barco, Castrillón and Illas the south by Grado, to the east by Las Regueras, on the west by Salas and Pravia. The capital Grullos is located nine kilometers

The Concejo has railway connections to the network, RENFE.

History

To Candamo and particularly on the banks of the river Nalón, rich finds from the Palaeolithic period have been made. An extraordinary occurrence in a hollow of the rock of Candamo ( discovered in 1913 ), which is the westernmost discovery of a Palaeolithic rock art. The first written references date from the 11th century and were found in a monastery archives. From the 13th century the place belongs to the municipality of Grado. From 1784 to 1835 the ( Administrative ) took the fight to the town charter, which was in 1835 awarded Candamo.

Economy

After the Spanish Civil War, an industrial area has been designated, which is characterized by medium-sized companies. The economic focus, however, is still in agriculture. The proximity to the Picos de Europa and the Stone Age finds growing in recent years, a small tourist industry.
