San Cipirello

San Cipirello is a city in the province of Palermo in the Italian region Sicily, with 5461 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012).

Location and data

San Cipirello located 33 km southwest of Palermo. The inhabitants mainly work in agriculture. In two cellars wine is produced ( the main grape varieties: Syrah, Nero d' Avola, Catarratto, Inzolia ). The community belongs to the following associations and organizations: Regione Agraria n 5 - Colline internal - Colline di Monreale; Associazione Nazionale Citta del Vino; Patto Territorial Alto Belice Corleonese. The connection to Palermo and Sciacca is guaranteed by the SS 624. Since 2006, the Romanian place Murfatlar is partner community.

The neighboring municipalities are Monreale and San Giuseppe Jato.

History

The site was created after a landslide on March 11, 1838 large parts of San Giuseppe li Mortilli, today's San Giuseppe Iato, had destroyed. 1864, declared the settlement to independent municipality.

Attractions

  • Municipal Museum with finds from Monte Iato, currently housed temporarily. A new building has already been completed. The Area archeologica di Monte Iato is on the municipality.
