Schönau, Rhineland-Palatinate

Schönau (Pfalz ) is a municipality in the southwest, in Rhineland -Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality Dahn, which has its headquarters in the town of Dahn. Schönau is a nationally recognized resort.

Geography

Schönau is located in the Palatinate Forest Nature Park, through the village flows the oxygen, which then flows through the Alsace to the Rhine. Schoenau part of the district Gebüg, the holiday camp Heilbach and the living space Biehlerhof.

History

Schönau was first documented in the year 1129. The Dukes of Pfalz- Zweibrücken put in place at an iron ore melt, which Schoenau became an early industrial community. 1835 bought by the industrialist Ludwig von Gienanth operation. After the closure of the mill 1883, Schönau turned into a resort.

Religion

2012 were 72.6 percent of the population Catholic and 14.5 percent Protestant. The other belonged to a different religion or no religious affiliation were. Catholics belong to the diocese of Speyer, the Evangelical Lutheran Church for Protestant Palatinate.

The local council in Schoenau consists of eight council members, who were elected at the municipal election held on 7 June 2009 of personalized proportional representation, and the honorary mayor as chairman.

Because of the population decline, the council reduced in 2004 from 12 to 8 members.

Coat of arms

The blazon reads: " split plate right in red with a golden crown an upright silver ploughshare, left of silver and green split twice in a green field mine hammer and mallet crossed in black, topped with a golden Abtsstab ".

It was established in 1956 approved by the Mainz Ministry of Interior and is in the front half back to a court seal from 1730.

Culture and sights

The 7- castles hiking trail has its starting point in Schoenau, passing among others at the castle Blumenstein.

The town has two historic organs: The Catholic Church has a romantic Spaeth organ from 1934, the Evangelical Church a, enhanced by Oberlinger, Voit organ from the 1800s.
