Soyuz 38

Soyuz 38 mission is the designation for the flight of a Soviet Soyuz spacecraft to the Soviet space station Salyut 6 It was the 13th visit of a manned Soyuz spacecraft in this space station and the 60th flight in the Soviet Sojusprogramm.

Mission overview

It was the eighth visit team ( Salyut 6 EP -8) who visited the station Salyut 6. Also, this visit took place as part of the Intercosmos program. During the visit, the fourth core team worked ( Salyut 6 EO -4) with Leonid Popov and Valery Rjumin.

The team underwent a successful coupling in the Earth's shadow, so that only the running lights of the approaching spacecraft was to be seen. From aboard the space station from the activities of the main engine of the Soyuz was filmed by Valeri Rjumin. Thus, the investigation into the problems of the main engine of Soyuz 33 were continued.

Unlike previous missions visit the space flight was not used to replace the Soyuz spacecraft to the space station. After a week Romanenko and Méndez returned with Soyuz 38 returns to Earth.
