Soyuz TMA-5

Soyuz TMA -5 is the mission name for the flight of a Russian Soyuz spacecraft to the International Space Station (ISS). It was the ninth visit of a Soyuz spacecraft at the ISS and the 115th flight in Sojusprogramm.

Mission overview

This flight was a crew exchange mission to the ISS and the 25th manned flight to the station. The working on the space station Expedition 9 was replaced by the crew of Expedition 10. It consisted of Russian cosmonaut Salizhan Sharipov (commander ) and the American Leroy Chiao ( Flight Engineer ). In addition, the cosmonaut Yuri Shargin flew with, who returned after a brief station stay of nearly eight days on 24 October 2004 with the Soyuz TMA -4 landing capsule to Earth.

The launch took place at a carrier rocket Soyuz -FG type from the Baikonur Cosmodrome on 14 October 2004 at 03:06:00 UTC clock.

The two spacemen Sharipov and Chiao worked as a 10th resident crew on the ISS and conducted scientific experiments. In addition, they received a visit from two Progress space transporters.
