Soyuz TMA-10

Soyuz TMA -10 mission is the designation for the flight of a Russian Soyuz spacecraft to the International Space Station (ISS). As part of the ISS program, the flight is called ISS AF - 14S. It was the 14th visit of a Soyuz spacecraft to the ISS and the 120th flight in Sojusprogramm.

Crew

Start crew

  • Fyodor Nikolayevich Yurchikhin ( second space flight ), flight engineer ( Roscosmos / Russia)
  • Charles Simonyi ( first space flight ), Space Tourist ( USA)

Since Yurchikhin has performed his first space flight on the Space Shuttle, Soyuz TMA -10 is the first flight since the Soyuz 7 in 1969, at the start, all three astronauts for the first time with a Soyuz spacecraft.

  • Mikhail Borisovich Korniyenko, Flight Engineer ( Roscosmos / Russia)

Return crew

  • Oleg Kotov Valeryevich ( first space flight), Commander ( Roscosmos / Russia)
  • Fyodor Nikolayevich Yurchikhin ( second space flight ), flight engineer ( Roscosmos / Russia)
  • Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor ( first space flight ), science astronaut, first Malaysian " Angkasawan "

Mission overview

This mission brought the 15 long-term crew to the International Space Station, replacing the Soyuz TMA -9 as a rescue vehicle. Originally, the space tourist Anousheh Ansari was provided for this flight. After she was, however, brought forward to Soyuz TMA -9, Charles Simonyi took third place alongside Yurchikhin and Kotov.

After the crew of the ISS Expedition flew to the ISS along with the first Malaysian cosmonaut Sheikh Shukor Muszaphar 16 with Soyuz TMA -11, the 15th expedition returned with the space ship on which they were launched to the International Space Station. On the return flight there was during reentry initially unexplained deviations, so that the onboard computer led the capsule on a ballistic trajectory and thus the spaceman ( 8.6 g ) were suspended upon entry into the atmosphere higher accelerations. Nevertheless, all three astronauts were doing well after landing. After it came to a ballistic landing even with Soyuz TMA -11, has turned out to be the probable primary cause of the error is a design problem with the cut-off between land and drive module.
