To discuss was the choice of the athlete of the year 2005. Tennis player Roger Federer was chosen by the sports journalists at first, but the decision was overturned by the television vote in favor of the motorcyclist Thomas Lüthi. Federer was voted the world athlete of the year later. Many voices have criticized the public choice since sympathies would have tipped the scales in front of athletic performance.
