Estrées-Deniécourt

Estrées- Deniécourt ( Picard: etree - Dgnincourt ) is a northern French village with 336 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) in the department of Somme in the Picardie region. The municipality belongs to the canton Chaulnes and is part of the Communauté de communes de Haute Picardie, whose administration is based here.

Geography

The parts of the community Estrées (formed from the Latin strata - street) and Deniécourt emerged municipality is located about 10 km southwest of Peronne in the Santerre. The municipality is bounded on the east by the Autoroute A1, the junction No. 13 on the church in West Ost.Richtung traversing Territory road leads 1029 ( former Route nationale 29, part of the system of Chaussée Brune skin). In parallel to Autoroute passes the high-speed rail route of the LGV Nord; the TGV Haute -Picardie train station, the so-called " sugar - station ", located mainly on the territory of the municipality.

History

During World War I the town was the scene of heavy fighting during the Battle of the Somme in the summer of 1916.

The municipality received the Croix de guerre as a distinction from 1914 to 1918.
