1948–49 Nationalliga A season

The season 1948/1949 was the eleventh regular hosting of the National League A, the top Swiss league in hockey. Swiss champion was the Zurich SC.

Mode

Unlike last year, the league was split into the main round again into two groups of four teams each. Each of the teams played in home and away leg against each group opponent, bringing the total number of matches per team was six. Subsequently, the two best teams in each group qualified for the final round, the winner champion, while the remaining four teams competed against each other for the league and the Last of the relegation round had to compete against the best second division side in the relegation. For a win, each team was given two points, a draw one point. At a loss to give any points.

The results from the main round between the two teams in a group aufliefen together in the final or relegation round were incorporated into the final or relegation round.

Final round

The Zürcher SC succeeded the Swiss series champion HC Davos, the eleven times in a row to win the national championship, to depose and won the second title of Swiss Champion club history.

The Grasshopper-Club, which of his twelve games of the season eleven lost and only reached a point in main and relegation round, struck the NLB Master Ambri -Piotta just 4-3 and was able to secure through the only win of the season in the league.
