65th British Academy Film Awards
The 65th ceremony of the British Academy Film Awards took place on February 12, 2012 at the Royal Opera House in London. The film awards from the British Academy of Film and Television Arts ( BAFTA ) were awarded in 24 categories. The event was hosted by the British actor and presenter Stephen Fry, who had already taken over this function from 2001 to 2006.
The nominations for the British Academy Film Awards were announced on 17 January 2012. With a total of 12 nominations excellent three Golden Globe Awards French silent film tribute The Artist leading the pack of nominees who could triumph in seven categories (including Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor - Jean Dujardin ). This was followed by Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, a British adaptation of John le Carré's spy novel of the same name, with eleven nominations and Martin Scorsese's film adaptation of children's book Hugo Cabret with nine nominations. Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy won the awards for best British film and best adapted screenplay, Hugo Cabret, the categories of Sound and Production Design. Scorsese was not only nominated for Best Director ( for Hugo Cabret ), but also for the best documentary ( for George Harrison - Living In The Material World about the musician George Harrison). In addition, Scorsese was the Honorary Award of the BAFTA, the Academy Fellowship, awarded with the life's work of the U.S. filmmaker will be honored. Two other awards won the drama The Iron Lady, a biopic about the former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher ( Best Actress - Meryl Streep, best mask) and the documentation Senna ( Best Documentary, Best Editing ) over the same Brazilian Formula 1 driver (1960-1994)

Election Procedures
For a nomination at the 65th British Academy Film Awards all feature films were considered, which were published between January 1 and December 31, 2011 in the United Kingdom, or the the case of a planned publication until February 10, 2010 from distributors in advance Academy were presented. For short films and animated shorts special rules applied, so only British productions have been approved for these categories. A total of 285 films met these conditions.
The award from the British Academy Film Awards took place in three rounds of voting. After the first ballot, a long list was published on 6 January 2012 for most categories, which contained up to 15 candidates per category. From this longlist, which was led by Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and Simon Curtis' My Week with Marilyn with 16 nominations, one determined the nominations in the second round. Except for the categories Best British Film, Best Foreign Language Film and Best Documentary were able to vote all members of the British Academy Film Awards in all categories. The nominations were presented on 17 January 2012 by the actors Daniel Radcliffe and Holliday Grainger.
In the final round each chapter of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts on the candidates voted. Only in the four categories and performer in the categories of Best Film, Best British Film, Best Foreign Language Film and Best Documentary all members were able to vote.
