Bornheim (Pfalz)

Bornheim is a municipality in the Southern Wine Route in Rhineland- Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality Offenbach at the Queich. Bornheim is by the action Palatinate stork that successfully operates a reintroduction of the white stork and is based here, become known beyond the German borders.

Geography

Bornheim lies a few kilometers from the eastern edge of the Palatinate Forest in the foothills of the wine region of Pfalz. To the west of the municipality spreads from the city of Landau, east determined predominantly used as grassland valley of the river Queich the now flat landscape of the Upper Rhine Plain.

Places in the next area are out of Landau Essingen, Hochstadt and Offenbach at the Queich.

History

Bornheim was first documented in the 10th century. From 1500 to 1709, the Bishopric of Speyer and the Electoral Palatinate shared the rule until the village came to the Palatinate in a swap completely. After the French Revolution Bornheim fell to France and in 1816 to the Kingdom of Bavaria. Since 1946 it is part of the then newly formed state of Rhineland- Palatinate. The municipality belongs to the municipality since 1972 Offenbach at the Queich, which has its headquarters in Offenbach.

Religion

2012 were 39.8 percent of the population Protestant and 39.2 percent Catholic. The other belonged to a different religion or no religious affiliation were. The Evangelical Lutheran Church belong to the Protestant Palatinate, Catholics belong to the diocese of Speyer.

The blazon of the arms is: " Gules, a district mark in the form of two horizontal thick bars that are connected in the middle by a narrower vertical post."

It was established in 1956 approved by the Mainz Ministry of Interior and is based on a seal of 1709.

Economy and infrastructure

Economy

Bornheim is dominated by viticulture. On the outskirts is the seat of the headquarters of the Hornbach DIY AG.

Traffic

North of Bornheim leads past the main road 272 ( Landau Speyer ), for which there are two driveways. The B 272 opens two kilometers west of the junction in the Landau North Highway 65 (Ludwigshafen am Rhein -Karlsruhe ). On one part of the disused railway line Landau -Lingen field Draisinenbahn listed at the leisure facilities operated today.
