Herxheimweyher

Herxheimweyher is a municipality in the Southern Wine Route in Rhineland- Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality Herxheim, which has its headquarters in the town of Herxheim bei Landau / Pfalz.

Geography

Herxheimweyher is located in the southern Palatinate. Neighboring municipalities are - clockwise - Knittelsheim, Ruelzheim and Herxheim bei Landau / Pfalz.

History

Herxheimweyher was first documented in 1046. The name derives not from a pond located near Herxheim, but from a hamlet, so a small settlement.

Until 1679 the town was under the Bishopric of Speyer. With the Peace of Nijmegen Herxheimweyher fell with all south of the Queich lying communities in France and remained French until 1815. In 1816 the Palatinate - and therefore Herxheimweyher - Bavarian, membership in the Kingdom of Bavaria ended in 1918.

1821, the present St. Anthony's church was built in the classical style instead of a chapel. 1837 was the rectory, 1845, school and community center built. From 1854 to 1880 Herxheimweyher had lost his own administration to Herxheim. 1973 Herxheimweyher the municipality Herxheim been assigned.

Religions

In 2007, 68.5 percent of the population Catholic, 18.5 percent Protestant. The other belonged to a different religion or no religious affiliation were.

Parish council
