Silz, Rhineland-Palatinate

Silz is a municipality in the Southern Wine Route in Rhineland- Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality of Annweiler am Trifels.

Geographical location

The small spa resort is located in the Wasgau and in the Palatinate Forest Nature Park between Annweiler am Trifels and Bad Bergzabern. He has learned through its Animal and Nature Park a certain reputation.

History

The place name Sulz indicates a sulziges, ie salty muddy water in the local church. Actually located in Silz at least four such salty sources.

The place Silz belonged to the late 18th century to Electoral Palatinate. After taking the left bank of the Rhine by French revolutionary troops (1794 ) Silz was from 1798 to 1814 into the canton Annweiler in the department of Thunder Mountain and was managed by the Mairie in Swan home. Because of the Congress of Vienna (1815 ) agreements, the Palatinate, and thus the community Silz had initially been assigned to Austria. In a 1816 closed treaty Austria ceded the region to the Kingdom of Bavaria from. The coat of arms description reads: " Sable, a left diagonal defined golden arrow with ascending peak, accompanied by a floating top right isosceles silver cross, bottom left of a silver salt crystal in a diamond shape ."

Silz has to have two distinctive features that will make the efforts of the community, to open up to tourism, clearly:

  • The Animal and Nature Park Southern Wine Route, as well as
  • The Silzer landscape pond in the recreation area Hohmühle.

The Animal and Nature Park Southern Wine Route in Silz has 15 different types of larger animals. In addition to a restaurant, kiosk and barbecue hut a lookout tower, a petting zoo, a children's and an adventure playground are available. The leisure facility is taken annually by around 100,000 visitors to complete.
