Kirrweiler (Pfalz ) is a municipality in the Southern Wine Route in Rhineland- Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality Maikammer.

Geographical location

Kirrweiler lies in the Palatinate between Neustadt on the Wine Route and Landau in the Palatinate at the edge of the Palatinate Forest.

History

Religions

In 2007, 64 percent of the population Catholic, 22.8 percent Protestant. The other belonged to a different religion or no religious affiliation were.

The local council in Kirrweiler consists of 16 council members, who were elected at the municipal election held on 7 June 2009 of personalized proportional representation, and the honorary mayor as chairman.

Coat of arms

The blazon of the arms is: " Argent, a black cross, the shaft of which is linkshin bent hook shape up."

It was established in 1962 approved by the Mainz Ministry of Interior and is based on a seal of 1703. It recalls that Kirrweiler was Amtsort of the Bishopric of Speyer.

Structures

The Lady Chapel at the cemetery is one of the attractions of the place. It was built in the years 1765 to 1769 and is the " mater dolorosa " consecrated. In 1964 it was renovated and re- equipped with stucco and painted ceilings ( Gschwendner ). There also exist around many remains of a wall around Kirrweiler, which was built at the time, as was a castle in Kirrweiler.

Special

The famous wooden miraculous image of the " Patrona Spirensis ", from the Speyer Cathedral, prayed in front of the already St. Bernard of Clairvaux, was after it had Dombrand 1689 survived intact, transferred from Vicar General Heinrich Hartard Rollingen to the church in Kirrweiler. From there, the Virgin Mary came back later in the cathedral back, but fell in 1794 French revolutionaries in Speyer victim that it burned. There is only one of them previously broken foot of the Infant Jesus, as a relic. In 1930 the Speyer Cathedral, a new picture of grace, which is based on the appearance of the old.

The Wine Festival is held annually the first weekend in July.

The church fete is held annually on the second weekend in September in the community.

Traffic

Nearest motorway access to the A 65 is Edenkoben. Kirrweiler has in common with Maikammer over the breakpoint " Maikammer - Kirrweiler ", where trains towards Neustadt ( Weinstr ) Hbf, run Karlsruhe Hbf and Wissembourg in Alsace.

Viniculture

Kirrweiler is significantly influenced by the wine-growing and one of the largest wine-growing villages of the Palatinate. The area under vines was 2005 594 acres.
