Honda RVF 750 RC45

The Honda RVF 750 RC45 is a super sports motorcycle of the Japanese car manufacturer Honda. The Honda RVF 750 RC45 was presented at the Milan EICMA motorcycle show to the public in the fall of 1993 as a homologation model for the Superbike World Championship. For the 2000 season out it was replaced by the Honda VTR 1000 SP1.

History

The Honda RVF 750 with the factory internal abbreviation RC45 was launched as a successor to the legendary Honda VFR 750 R RC30 on the market. Like the RC30 and the RC45 was produced only in limited numbers and was also available as singles. The then new price was 44,480 DM was used the RC45 in the Superbike World Championship, the FIM Endurance World Championship in, in which important in Japan 8 - hour race at Suzuka and road races such as the Tourist Trophy on the Isle of Man. The letter combination RVF is made up as follows: R is for Racing, V for V- engine and F for Four. Also from the RC45, there was again a small version with 400 cc capacity, the Honda RVF 400 NC35.

Technology

Motor

The drive was again, as in the RC30 also a 90-degree, four-cylinder V-engine use, which significantly reduced the width in contrast to the in-line four -cylinder engines. The four overhead camshafts were driven by gears from the crankshaft. This design increased reliability over the timing chain or the timing belt, because tearing or skipping and thus an engine failure were excluded. The gears were in contrast to the RC30 motor is no longer placed in the center, but on the right side next to the cylinders. This allowed a crankshaft bearing saved and thus the overall width can be further reduced. Completely new was the electronic fuel injection, called by Honda PGM -FI. The control unit was freely programmable.

Landing gear

The chassis corresponded largely to the standard of other Japanese Superbike models. That is, there was a bridge frame of aluminum used in the steering head and swingarm pivot were performed in die casting and the center piece of an extruded profile. The front wheel was out of an upside -down fork with 41 mm thick dip tubes. Made the difference in the single-sided swingarm, called by Honda "Pro Arm". This system was developed in the 80s by Honda in collaboration with the French company eleven france to do the faster wheel change in long-distance races can. Both have this system patented, so that any other manufacturer who wanted to use it, had to pay patent fees. Disadvantage of the system is a wayward steering and Aufstellverhalten that even the 16- inch front wheel with 130 mm wide tires forth stirred, as in the Honda CBR 900 RR Fireblade and the Honda NR 750 RC40 also. The selection of current sports tires is also limited for these rims dimension.
