Magione

Magione is a municipality in the province of Perugia ( Umbria ) in Italy.

Magione is located at the intersection of routes to Perugia, Arezzo and Chiusi 15 km west of Perugia at an average altitude of 299 meters. The municipality of 14,668 inhabitants (as of 31 December 2012) on an area of 129 km ² ( 2004).

The most famous son of the city ( former name of the place: Fian dei Carpini ) is the Franciscan friar Fra Giovanni da Pian di Carpine, who was sent in the 13th century as an ambassador of Innocent IV in Mongolia to the Khan of the Tartars. His trip report from 1248 shows that he had come before Marco Polo to China.

In Magione, the Castello dei Cavalieri di Malta, which was built around 1420 castle of the Knights is. Privately owned, tour July / August.
