Piloña

Piloña is a municipality in the autonomous community of Asturias, in northern Spain, bounded on the north by Villaviciosa and Colunga, to the south by Ponga, Caso and Sobrescobio, on the west by Nava and Cabranes, and to the east of Parres. The administrative capital of the district court and seat of the municipality is Infiesto. The Mountain Les Vízcares is 1,420 m, the highest elevation of the community.

History

Since prehistoric times the region is populated. In the El- Sidron Cave near Borines prehistoric rock paintings have been found. At this period the Piloña area was inhabited by the Loggones, one of the most important tribes of Asturias. During the occupation of Asturias by the Romans also Piloña is conquered. In the medieval documents, there are many references to churches and places in Piloña. Liber Tesatamentorum in the Cathedral of Oviedo is confirmed with date September 23, 926 that Ramiro II, son of Alfonso III. and Queen Jimena, several donations made ​​to the Church of Oviedo.
