Career

In his birthplace, he began his junior career with the Peterborough Petes, but switched after his first year in the highest junior league Ontario to Niagara Falls Flyers. After his third junior season in the NHL Entry Draft in 1980, it lasted until the sixth round before the Chicago Blackhawks chose him as the 120th player.

He made his debut with the Hawks in the 1980/81 season, it brought in this year, but only four games. In the following season he did not make the breakthrough and played mostly in the farm team in New Brunswick. In the season 1982/83 he was already in the first game on the ice, and began his actual rookie season. Steve played a great season. With 90 points, he won the Calder Memorial Trophy as the best rookie and set the valid to date record for rookies with the Blackhawks on. Remarkable but also that Larmer until his move to New York in 1993 missed a single game. Even 884 games in a row, a record that still today in Chicago endures. In the New York Rangers in 1994, he won the Stanley Cup. He was still playing the short season due to a strike in 1994/95 and broke the mark of 1,000 points, before he ended his career.

1991 Larmer played with the Canadian National Team at the Canada Cup.
