Tuoro sul Trasimeno

The place Passignano sul Trasimeno is located 309 meters above sea level on the northern shores of Lake Trasimeno ( Perugia Province, Umbria region ) and has 3838 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012).

The village consists of two parts: the actual town on the gently sloping hills and the resulting lakeside settlement of Punta Navaccia with harbor and beach.

In the year 217 BC the troops of Hannibal and the Roman army fought near at Sanguineto a fierce battle, which ended in a complete defeat of the Romans under Gaius Flaminius. On the historic site a nature trail has been established. The stations of the battle are explained with panels. One can find the tombs of buried by Hannibal the Carthaginian nobles thirty and numerous cremation graves of Roman and African soldiers.

By the lake the exhibition grounds Campo del Sole, where 28 large sculptures of Italian and international artists from the years 1985 to 1989 are available, which are reminiscent of the Hannibal battle lies.
