Villa Literno

Villa Literno is an Italian municipality ( comune ) with 10,940 inhabitants (as of 31 December 2012) in the province of Caserta in Campania. The municipality is situated approximately 22 km west-southwest of Caserta, about 24 kilometers north- west of Naples.

History

The history of the village dates back to antiquity. However, it is not to be confused with the Oscan city Liternum, which was about 10 kilometers south of Villa Literno. Liternum was an insignificant trading venue or marshals on the Via Domitiana that from Terracina to Reggio ( Rhegium ) led, between Cumae and the mouth of the Volturno. in the itineraries the place to dive to the 8th century. From the archaeological remains of settlements are still present.

The name of the community was established by Ministerial Decree 1927. Previously called the Vico di Pantano.

Traffic

The municipality is situated on the Strada Statale 7 bis, while the Strada Statale 7quater the church in the West cuts in north-south direction. 10 km north of Villa Literno is the military airfield of Grazzanise to be converted to a civilian airport because of the limited capacity of the Neapolitan airport. Villa Literno is connected to the rail network by its railway station on the railway line Roma - Formia -Naples. Villa Literno is also the terminal station of the suburban railway Passante ferroviario di Napoli.
