Welsh Open (Snooker)

The Welsh Open Snooker are a professional tournament with the status of a world ranking tournament.

History

In 1992, the tournament has been included in the world ranking ranking. It replaced the Welsh Professional Championship, which were held since 1980, to which, however, there was no world ranking points. The tournament was sponsored by twelve years of shelf, a tobacco brand from Imperial Tobacco.

But the actual fighting is in Newport, Wales, always at the beginning of the calendar year. Between 1999 and 2004 the tournament was held in Cardiff.

Most tournament wins at the Welsh Open achieved so far, the Scots Stephen Hendry and John Higgins, Ronnie O'Sullivan and the Englishman to have won three times each.
