William Barclay McMurrich

William Barclay McMurrich ( born November 1, 1842 in Toronto, Ontario, † February 9, 1939 ) was a Canadian lawyer, politician and mayor of Toronto 23.

McMurrich was the son of Scottish immigrants, and was educated at Knox Academy and the private school Upper Canada College. He completed his art studies in 1864 at the University of Toronto and graduated from it a law degree. He received his license to practice law, 1866. In 1868 he became the St. Andrew's Representative for the public schools of Ward selected. He stayed eight years in that position. In 1879 he was elected to the City Council and from January 1881 to January 1883 he was mayor of Toronto. He entered 1882 to the Canadian House of Commons elections and lost narrowly to James Beaty.
