Beldorf
Beldorf is a municipality in the district of Rendsburg -Eckernförde in Schleswig -Holstein. The municipality consists of the village Beldorf and the smaller hamlets Grünental, Aalhoop, William Castle and the Lesser America.
Geography and transport
Beldorf is located about 17 km south-west of Heide on both sides of the North Sea-Baltic Canal. The village lies on the south bank. 5 km west of Beldorf runs the Federal Highway 23 from Hamburg to Heath. The village also lies on the railway line Büsum - Heide ( Holstein ) Neumünster.
The name of the hamlet Little America (or Lütt America) refers to the name of a courtyard, which was built from 1850-1855 by a farmer whose brothers had emigrated to the United States.
History
Beldorf was first mentioned before 1500.
1892, three years before the completion of the Kiel Canal, was built in Beldorf with the green valleys High Bridge, the first canal bridge. It was in 1986 replaced by a new building.
1998, a community-owned wind park was established.
