Geographical location

Dietzenrode - Vatterode is approximately 10 kilometers south-west of the county town of Heiligenstadt in Eichsfeld Hainich Werra. History

District Dietzenrode

The first mention as Tuzenrode " ( Built on the clearing of the Dizo ... ( diminutive of Ditrich ) village) " falls in the year 1256th Dietzenrode documented for the first time in 1288 was mentioned.

District Vatterode

The town was first mentioned in 1331. He was originally a monastic establishment, in 1888 a new church was built on the site of the old monastery church.

On April 8, Vatterode was shelled by U.S. artillery. This 4 inhabitants were killed. On April 9, it was occupied without a fight.

The previously Hessian village Vatterode was incorporated in 1945 in the wake of border corrections due to the Wanfrieder Agreement in the Soviet occupation zone and thus to Thuringia (see also: Schifflersgrund ).

The communities Dietzenrode and Vatterode teamed up with effect from 12 April 1990 Dietzenrode community - Vatterode.

Coat of arms

Blazon: " Divided into Green, through a golden bar, above a growing out of the bar rising silver horse, down a silver table over a trifoliate silver linden branch. "

The municipal coat of arms contains Heraldikelemente for each formerly independent district. Dietzenrode had until 1953 and from 1990 in the parish seal a horse as a symbol, Vatterode is symbolized by the table with linden branch, both of which point to the old village green with Anger table and Lindenbaum. The coat of arms was designed by Karl -Heinz Fritze.
