Marth

Marth is a municipality in the Thuringian district of calibration field and belongs to the administrative community Hanstein - Rusteberg.

Location

Marth is located at the southern foot of the Rusteberges, still above the line valley about 8 km west of Heiligenstadt. About the county road K 104 and K 105 is the place connected with the national highway 80.

For the district of Marth are still lying in the Leinetal small settlements Hessenau and Eckstieg, the former meadow mill and the commercial area located near the former road inspector's house " Miwepa ", now the site of an arene Homes for packing work.

History

The place belonged to the castle Rusteberg Marth, a heavily fortified medieval castle. In the 15th century the castle was converted into a modern fortress. She was the center of administration of the Eichsfeld kurmainzischen and residence of the manager. 1540, the administration was moved to Heiligenstadt and neglects the castle. After the official house had been built at the foot of the mountain, was one of the castle.

From 1802 to 1945 Marth was part of the Prussian province of Saxony. 1945 to 1949 was the place to the Soviet occupation zone and was since 1949 part of the GDR. From 1961 until the turn and reunion 1989/1990 Marth has been affected by the closure of the nearby German border. Since 1990, a part of the place to Thuringia.

Culture and sights

In the cone-shaped mountain peak at Marth is the ruins Rusteberg, it was the official residence of kurmainzischen management for the calibration field and goes back to the 12th century. From the castle and a chapel ruins are still present.
