Wahlhausen

Wahlshausen is a municipality in the Thuringian district of calibration field on the Werra, located directly on the border with Hesse. It belongs to the administrative community Hanstein - Rusteberg.

Geographical location

Wahlshausen is located on the western border of the Eichsfeld- Hainich- Werra valley at the mouth of Walse into the Werra. To the north lies the ridge height mountain ( 508.9 m above sea level. NN ) and southeast of the ridge Gobert ( 569 m above sea level. NN ). Hereafter and thereby west of the Werra is the belonging to Northern Hesse Soodener Bergland.

History

Generally

The first mention choice Stockhausen dates from the year 1243 as " Waldesa ". This traditional instrument of a " Hartung of Waldesa " logs a donation to the monastery Germerode. The first name spelling was " Waldesa "; the means forest and water is derived from the creek that flows through the town. In 1336 the place is also called " water - Waldesa ". When the Hansteiner moved their residences in the surrounding villages after the expiry of their ancestral castle, they also built in Wahlshausen three mansions, the lower, middle - (or Ershäuser ) and the Oberhof. Prior to these new buildings and houses of the village almost disappeared, and so the town was known with regard to the newly built houses, " forest house ". This results in the present form of the name Wahlshausen found. Its sovereign until the secularization in 1802 Kurmainz.

The " Hansteinsche patrimonial " had from 1772 to 1849 based in Wahlshausen. 1802 to 1807 the place became Prussian and then came to the Kingdom of Westphalia. From 1815 to 1945 he was part of the Prussian province of Saxony. 1945 Hansteinschen estates were expropriated and divided. Until 1949 the town was part of the Soviet zone of occupation and since 1949 part of the GDR. Until the turn and reunion 1989/1990 Wahlshausen was massively affected by the nearby German border. He belonged to the " 5 - km exclusion zone " along the inner German border. On the night of 17 to August 18, 1989 Wahlshausen came because of the shots on Wahlshausen in the media. Unknown had fired 91 shots over the German - German border by the Hessian Allendorf on Wahlshausen without meeting people. Perpetrators and backgrounds are not elucidated. The most common hypotheses are that it was a diversion of the Stasi or a Silly boy prank.

Since 1990, the city is part of the re-established state of Thuringia. The small family church of the von Hanstein was just restored in time, thus preserved from decay and is the community jewel.
