Mackenrode, Thuringia

Mackenrode is a municipality in the administrative community uder in the Thuringian district of calibration field.

Geographical location

Mackenrode is within the Upper Eichsfeld in Eichsfeld Hainich Werra. Bathed it is from the eastern Werra tributary Walse.

Community structure

The municipality Mackenrode belong next to the village Mackenrode even the hamlets Hennigerode and Weidenbach. The district Mackenrode is part of the historic Eichsfeld, the districts Hennigerode and Weidenbach, now part of the district of calibration field, came in 1945 through a land swap as part of the Wanfrieder Agreement Hessen Thuringia and not part of the historical calibration field (see: Schifflersgrund ).

History

Generally

The district Mackenrode was first mentioned on January 1, 1236. In those 47 x 33 cm large document that is stored in the Hessian State Archive Marburg, transmits the Archbishop Siegfried III. the Cistercian monastery of Marienfeld in Munsterland tithes to Witzenhausen and Karmannshausen with which to date the brothers Dietrich Vitztum of Rusteberg and Heidenreich von Hanstein were invested. As compensation, he transfers the brothers the village Eichstruth, tithes to Mackenrode and interest fruits Nesselröden and Langenhagen. The place belonged to Electoral Mainz until the secularization in 1802 he became Prussian and came in 1807 to the Kingdom of Westphalia. 1815 to 1945 he was part of the Prussian province of Saxony. 1945-1949 was the place to the Soviet occupation zone.

The present-day districts Hennigerode and Weidenbach came in Wanfrieder agreement also for SBZ and have been since 1949, as well Mackenrode part of the GDR. From 1961 until the turn and reunion 1989/1990 Mackenrode was affected by the closure of the nearby German border. 1974 Weidenbach was amalgamated with Hennigerode. Since 1990, the community is part of the re-established state of Thuringia.

Culture and sights

On 15 August 2009, the fairy tale park Mackenrode was opened as part of the German Fairy Tale Road.
