Schwobfeld

Schwobfeld is a municipality in the administrative community Ershausen / Geismar in the Thuringian district Eichsfeld.

Geographical location

The community Schwobfeld is located about 10 km ( straight line ) south of the county town of Heiligenstadt on the southwestern edge of the Eichsfeld. The district is situated on an elevated valley between the mountain Rachel ( 523.4 m) in the south west and the mountain height ( 520.8 m) in the northeast. There is also the headwaters of the Rode, a tributary of Frieda.

Neighboring towns are Dieterode in the north, armor in the east, in the southeast and Wiesenfeld Weidenbach in the West.

History

The town was first mentioned in 1323 as " Swabfelde " documentary. At this time, the place already belonged to Electoral Mainz, the castle district of the Office Access stone. Today's ruin Greifenstein is eight kilometers southeast of the city at Geismar. Schwobfeld bordered to the west by the Hessian Office Old stone, the local conditions were thus determined always by a boundary layer. 1802 to 1807 the place became Prussian and then came to the Kingdom of Westphalia. 1815 to 1945 he was part of the Prussian province of Saxony.

The village Schwobfeld counted in 1840 according to a statistical study 163 Catholic inhabitants. Schwobfeld then consisted of 24 houses, 34 stables and barns, a tavern and three community centers. In the center are the All Saints Church and the village green. The school visited 15 school-age boys and 15 girls. A grocer ( Victualienhändler ) and a publican supplied the food. The entire livestock included 23 horses, 68 cattle, 153 sheep, 12 goats and 38 pigs. The village hall included 737 morning area, agricultural land comprised thereof 533 acres of farmland, 13 acres garden land, 24 acres of meadows. In addition, 50 acres of community forest and fallow land were called 115 the morning.

1945-1949 was the place to the Soviet occupation zone and was since 1949 part of the GDR. From 1961 until the turn and reunion 1989/1990 Schwobfeld was affected by the closure of the nearby German border. Since 1990, the city is part of the re-established state of Thuringia.

Coat of arms

The approved on 31 March 1998 municipal coat of arms is based on a fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm, which recounts the adventures of seven Swabians on their clumsy walk through the world. As a nod to his own place names and " canting symbol" this representation had been received into the church seal in 1951.

The coat of arms shows on a green background behind the other seven synchronous border men in silver, which jointly horizontally a silver lance.

Attractions

As landmarks, the Church " All Saints " are ( from 1990 to 1993 year) and the umstandene of Linden village green called. For cultural events, a community center was established. In the hallway there are several field and weather crosses as expressions of popular piety. East of the site rise up the edge of the valley of limitation, the distinctive Dieter Röder cliffs. A popular destination for visitors is the barely two kilometers away, castle ruins Altenstein to the Hessian- Thuringian border. The former border area is reported as long-distance hiking and nature conservation project Green Belt.

Geologically interesting is the Schlitt stone (416 m), a bulge of dolomite east of St. John mountain within the Eichenberg -Gotha - Saalfeld fault zone.
