Geography

Geisleden is located about four kilometers south-east of the Holy City in the Valley of Geislede. Other neighboring towns are Westhausen in the north, the east and Kreuzebra Heuthen in the southeast.

To the north lies the fertilizer with the Kirchloh ( 438 m) and the stone round ( 475 m), in the south of the Upper Eichsfelder level with the waiting mountain ( 516 m). History

Is mentioned in a document Geisleden already around the year 1022 as an imperial empire village. The name could be derived from " Geis laha " for goats pool / bach or Geisbach. An upper reaches of the Geislede is still called " Gieselbach ". Another explanation is " Geisl - aha " for scourge or wind and water, so gieselndes water conceivable.

On 9 April 1945 Geisleden was occupied by the U.S. Army. This was preceded by artillery bombardment damage to numerous homes. Three civilians were killed. Two Wehrmacht soldiers were buried in the church cemetery. Beginning of July, the occupation by the Red Army and the incorporation into the Soviet Zone, from 1949 GDR.

Infrastructure

Church

  • The church from the years 1780 to 1783 is dedicated to Saints Cosmas and Damian. 1923/24 was a modification and extension.

Mills

In the village mills were four, listed in part, available.

  • The Ankermühle was designed as a four-sided, it dates from the 16th century and until 1960 operated remained of it only the barn to receive.
  • The bending mill is located northwest of the local situation, it was also already in operation before 1600, most recently in 1962 grain was milled in it, now it is being used as a residence.
