Geographical location

Kirchgandern is in the upper line trench about 2.5 km north-east of the border triangle Hesse Lower Saxony and Thuringia. The 4.37 km ² large area extends in the heights of 192-329 m above sea level. History

The first mention Kirchganderns took place in 1118. Kirchgandern takes its name from the original settlement " Ganderaha ". " Gander " means gander and " Aha " is the name for water, so the place name means " located at the goose creek ". The nickname " church " was the village, as his church was the main church of the spiritual spell. The church is one of the oldest churches in the near vicinity, according to deed it was built in 1300. Thus evolved over time from the place name " Ganderaha " today toponym Kirchgandern. 1802 to 1807 the place became Prussian and then came to the Kingdom of Westphalia. From 1815 he was part of the Prussian province of Saxony. 1945 to 1949, the village belonged to the Soviet occupation zone and since 1949 part of the GDR. From 1952 until the turn and reunion 1989/1990 Kirchgandern was affected by the closure of the nearby German border. In Kirchgandern there used to be many craft shops such as bakeries, butcher shops, a mill, grocery stores, restaurants, a cigar factory, doctors, hairdressers, a hat factory, tailor, a shoemaker, a plate -makers, carpenters, a blacksmith, painters, plumbers, a trucking company and much more. Even in education Kirchgandern was relatively well equipped with two schools.

Over the years in Kirchgandern developed an active club life. For example, the Veterans' Association, the Pigeon Association, the Young Women's Association and the cycling club, which no longer exist today emerged. However, the glee club, the dog sport club, the VFR Sports Club, the Old Men Kirchgandern, the forest community, the Kolping family, the conveyor Kirchgandern and the volunteer fire department Kirchgandern are still very active today.

After the turn Kirchgandern was taken to the village renewal program; the community opened up an industrial park and built a community center in which today meetings, association meetings and celebrations take place.
