Sickerode

Sickerode is a municipality in the administrative community Ershausen / Geismar in the Thuringian district of calibration field.

Location

The place Sickerode is located approximately 13 km ( straight line ) south of the county town of Heiligenstadt in the Valley of Rode, between the Gobert in the west and the Misseröder Kalkrücken in the east. The highest point in the district is the Sickeröder mountain ( 386.4 m above sea level. NN ).

Neighboring towns are Pfaffschwende and Volkerode in the West, Wiesenfeld in the northwest, Misserode the east and Geismar in the southeast.

History

The first reliable written reference dates from the year 1398. The church was built in 1730. The place belonged to the secularization in 1802 to Electoral Mainz. 1802 to 1807 the place was Prussian and then came to the Kingdom of Westphalia. 1815 to 1945 he was part of the Prussian province of Saxony. In 1840 the Prussian places of Eichsfeld were statistically. In the village there were 42 houses, 55 barns and stables, a village hall, the church, the school and three mill. In the place lived 285 Catholic inhabitants. The school visited 26 boys and 21 girls, they were taught by a village schoolmaster. As crafts and industry are identified in the place: two tailors, two carpenters, a blacksmith, a paver, a mechanical and millwright, two innkeepers. The village hall included 617 morning area, agricultural land comprised thereof 504 acres of farmland, 15 acres of garden land, 35 acres of meadows. In addition, 38 acres and 24 community forest morning Barrens were called. The produce of the fields was estimated to be low. The entire livestock included 7 horses, 56 cattle, 65 sheep, 27 goats and 34 pigs. In the town three driven by the small mills were Rode - Thor mill Spitzmühle and the upper mill available.

1945-1949 was the place to the Soviet occupation zone and was since 1949 part of the GDR. From 1961 until the turn and reunion 1989/1990 Sickerode was affected by the closure of the nearby German border. Since 1990, the city is part of the re-established state of Thuringia.
