Schachtebich

Schachtebich is a municipality in the administrative community Hanstein in Thuringia - Rusteberg Eichsfeld.

Location

Schachtebich is located about six kilometers north- west of Heiligenstadt in the hilly landscape of the central Eichsfeld. Neighboring municipalities are Freienhagen in the north, Mengelrode in the east, Burgwalde in the south and tube mountain in the West. Immediately to the south runs the federal highway 38 at a junction.

Still belongs to the boundaries of the adjacent district just north of Goose Pond ( first mentioned 1548).

History

The documentary first mention dates back to 1201. 1209 Schachtebich is called as pastor of branch pipe mountain documented. The place belonged to Electoral Mainz until the secularization in 1802. 1802 to 1807 the place became Prussian and then came to the Kingdom of Westphalia. 1815 to 1945 he was part of the Prussian province of Saxony.

In 1840 the Prussian places of Eichsfeld were statistically. Schachtewich belonged to Hahnenstein 's patrimonial Wahlshausen. In the village there were 38 houses, 35 barns and stables, three community centers, church, school and a mill. In the place lived 316 Catholic and Protestant inhabitants 4. The school visited 39 boys and 52 girls, they were taught by a village schoolmaster. As crafts and industry are identified in the place: two tailors, two shoemakers, a blacksmith, a mason, three musicians, two innkeepers, 1 butcher, a miller. In the village were also eight looms in operation. The village hall included 697 morning area, agricultural land comprised 550 of acres of farmland, 31 acre garden land, 11 acres of meadows. Furthermore, 62 morning private and community forest and 36 acres of fallow land were called. The produce of the fields was judged to be average. The entire livestock consisted of 51 horses, 51 cattle, 141 sheep, 23 goats and 29 pigs.

1945-1949 was the place to the Soviet occupation zone and was since 1949 part of the GDR. From 1961 until the turn and reunion 1989/1990 Schachtebich was affected by the closure of the nearby German border. Thus, the location on the road to Burgwalde sawmill had to be abandoned. It was demolished around 1980, after 1963 the house had become uninhabitable due to fire damage.

Since 1990, the city is part of the re-established state of Thuringia.

Structures

In the village there affiliated church of St. Magnus is from the year 1735. East above the village is a former watchtower as a memorial of the local division of Germany.
