History

The Friedrich- Wilhelm -Luebke- polder was the last polder in Schleswig -Holstein, which was built on the reclaimed land. Later polders as the Hauke- sharks - enclosed land, or Beltringharder enclosed land were opened up for the sake of coastal protection and are only partially or not at all settled.

The reclamation of the polder with a 8.5 km long outer dike dike construction project was the largest of the post-war period in Schleswig -Holstein. As settled as a result of the Second World War, many refugees and displaced persons in Schleswig -Holstein, the new framework of the program northern settlement area should be established. The North program was driven by the then Prime Minister of Schleswig-Holstein, Friedrich Wilhelm Lübke, who is also the namesake.

For the first time, a dike was built into actually unprepared Wadden Sea. The hitherto conventional methods of reclamation occurred in areas that were decades earlier prepared and had formed in which already begin to land. This dike construction employed about one thousand workers. On 16-17. September 1954 destroyed a flood large parts of the seawall bridge. The water washed large quantities of building materials away. The situation began to be critical, since the dike had to be completed before the fall and winter storms in order to avoid even greater damage.

After the dike was successfully concluded on October 21, 1954, the country had to be drained and developed infrastructure until 1958/1959 the first families could settle. The original settlement consisted of 41 unit farms, a school and a restaurant with a corner shop. Equal parts local farmers and displaced persons were resettled from the eastern territories.

School and kindergarten, there are no more, but some courts will continue to be - now in its third generation - run by the families of the first settlers. One important industry is the wind energy.
