Giano dell'Umbria

Giano dell 'Umbria is a municipality with 3822 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the province of Perugia in the Umbria region of Italy.

Geography

The municipality extends over some 44 km ². The community is located about 35 km southeast of Perugia in the climatic classification of Italian communities in the zone E, 2344 GR / G. It belongs to the Comunità montana Community dei Monti Martano e Serano and is part of the Associazione Nazionale Città Dell'Olio.

Among the 17 districts ( Frazioni ) include, inter alia, Bastardo, Camporeggiano, Fabbri, Castagnola, Macciano, Montecchio, Morcicchia, San Sabino and Seggiano.

The neighboring municipalities are Castel Ritaldi, Gualdo Cattaneo, Massa Martana, Montefalco and Spoleto.

History

The name comes from the Italian word for Janus. The place stood since the 13th century under the control of Spoleto in 1816 independent municipality.
