National routes (South Africa)

The network of national roads in South Africa (English: National Roads ) pervades the entire South Africa and connects all major cities. The streets are usually marked with an "N " and the respective number of national road in a green pentagon and well signposted. Some sections of some national roads are toll roads (N1, N2, N3, N4, N12, N17 ).

For the system of national roads and other public roads, the state agency SANRAL (South African National Roads Agency Limited ) is responsible, based in Pretoria. It lies in the special jurisdiction of the South African Department of Transportation.
