Rantrum

Rantrum ( Frisian: Rånterem ) is a municipality in the district of North Friesland Schleswig -Holstein. Ipernstedt belongs to the municipality.

History

Numerous megalithic monuments in the municipality evidence of a settlement in prehistoric times.

The town was first mentioned in 1381. Rantrum is certainly older, but since the Mildstedter church burned down in the 14th century, there is no earlier written references. Its name is derived from the personal name Rante, which in turn is derived from the goddess of the sea Rán.

From 1460 Long-range areas were diked so that the inlet of the Norder Eider to 1579 was entirely to country. This created the requirement of the livestock industry, which in the second half of the 16th century had their heyday.

1602 a school was established in Rantrum.

The railway line from Husum to Rendsburg led since 1910 by the municipality it is now shut down and dismantled.

In 2001, the municipality Rantrum national winner in the competition was Our village is beautiful and won at the federal level, the silver medal. In 2002, the village was given the rating Rantrum resort.

Incorporations

On 1 July 1974, the former municipality Ipernstedt was incorporated.

Municipal council

  • Of the 13 seats in the municipal council, the SPD had since the municipal election 2008, seven seats, the CDU and the FDP and four voters Community WE each have a seat
  • In the local elections on May 26, 2013, the SPD received 43.7 percent, six seats. The CDU came to 31.2 per cent and four seats. On the WE accounted for 14.8 per cent and two seats. The FDP received 10.3 percent, which won one seat, voter turnout was 62.5 percent.
