Robert L. F. Sikes

Robert Lee Fulton Sikes (* June 3, 1906 in Sylvester, Worth County, Georgia, † 28 September 1994 Crestview, Florida ) was an American politician. He represented the state of Florida in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Robert Sikes graduated in 1927 from the University of Georgia in Athens, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree. His Master of Science he received in 1929 from the University of Florida in Gainesville. After studying Sikes worked 1933-1946 in a publishing house in Crestview. Then he sat 1936-1940 House of Representatives from Florida.

Sikes was elected as a Democrat to the 77th and the 78th Congress. He exercised his activity there on January 31, 1941 until his resignation on 9 October 1944 and then joined the United States Army. After the war, Sikes his political career continued. He was elected to the 79th and the 16 subsequent Congresses. His term lasted from January 3, 1945 to January 3, 1979, however, he decided in 1978 not to run for the 96th Congress. During his tenure, Sikes was involved in the constitution of the Southern Manifesto, which spoke out against racial integration in public institutions. He was also a delegate to the 1959 Inter-Parliamentary Conference in Warsaw.
