Samuel J. Tedesco

Samuel J. Tedesco ( born February 21, 1915 in Bridgeport, Connecticut; † August 5, 2003 in Berkeley, California ) was an American politician. Between 1963 and 1966 he was Deputy Governor of the State of Connecticut.

Career

About the youth and education of Samuel Tedesco nothing is handed down. After studying law at Boston University and qualifying as a lawyer, he began to work in this profession. At the same time he proposed as a member of the Democratic Party launched a political career. Between 1940 and 1942 he sat as an MP in the House of Representatives from Connecticut. From 1943 to 1946, he served during the Second World War in the United States Army. From 1949 to 1953 Tedesco was a member of the State Senate. In the early 1950s he became municipal judge in Bridgeport. In 1955, he ran unsuccessfully for the office of the local mayor. Two years later he won the next elections for mayor in his hometown. After that, he was 1957-1965 Mayor of Bridgeport. This included also a part of his time as Lieutenant Governor.

1962 Tedesco was elected to the side of John N. Dempsey for Lieutenant Governor of Connecticut. This post he held 1963-1966. Yet he was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate. When he was appointed in 1966 a judge of the Superior Court, he resigned from the office of lieutenant governor. The remainder of the term until January 1967, took over Fred J. Doocy. In the following years Samuel Tedesco remained judge. In 1976, he was temporarily suspended from the Bar Association and convicted for the legalization of false documentation for the renewal of a license to sell alcohol. He appealed against the verdict successful revision and was able to remain in the Bar Association. His judgeship he kept also; However, he has negotiated no more cases into retirement in 1980 until his employment. Since 1989, Tedesco lived in California. He died after a long illness on August 5, 2003 in Berkeley. His final resting place he found on the Saint Michael's Cemetery in Stratford.
