William L. Hadden

William L. Hadden ( born October 8, 1896 in Elmira, New York, † 11 July 1983) was an American politician. Between 1943 and 1945 he was Deputy Governor of the State of Connecticut.

Career

Even as a small child was William Hadden in 1897 with his family to New Haven in Connecticut. In 1909 the family moved to West Haven on. He attended the public schools of his respective home. After a subsequent law degree from Fordham University and his 1917 was admitted to the bar he began to work in this profession. In the meantime, he served during World War II in the U.S. armed forces. Between 1919 and 1921 he worked alongside his work as a lawyer and as an Assistant Clerk to the Court in West Haven. Between 1923 and 1927 he was a prosecutor and then judge until 1937.

Politically, Hadden joined the Republican Party. Between 1939 and 1942 he sat as an MP in the House of Representatives from Connecticut. There he was at times chairman of the Judiciary Committee and Republican faction leader. 1942 Hadden was elected to the side of Raymond E. Baldwin for Lieutenant Governor of Connecticut. This post he held between 1943 and 1945. Yet he was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate. In 1944 he was not re-elected. Between 1945 and 1951 he held the office of Attorney General of Connecticut. In June 1948 he took part in Philadelphia as a delegate to the Republican National Convention. Hadden was also a member of the American Bar Association and the American Legion veterans organization. Since 1920 he was married to the deceased in 1981, Mary McNamara, with whom he had three children. He died on 11 July 1983.
