William S. Holabird

William S. Holabird (* around 1794 in Winsted, Litchfield County, Connecticut, † May 20 1855 in Winchester, Connecticut ) was an American politician. Between 1842 and 1844 he was Deputy Governor of the State of Connecticut.

Career

About the youth and education of William Holabird nothing is handed down. But he must have studied law, because he was legally operate later. Politically, he joined, founded by President Andrew Jackson Democratic Party. The early 1830s, he ran twice unsuccessfully for Congress. Between 1834 and 1841 he was Attorney General for the State of Connecticut. In this capacity he was one of the prosecutors in the Amistad process. In the movie based on it Amistad in 1997 Holabird is played by the actor Pete Postlethwaite.

In 1842, Holabird was elected to the side of Chauncey F. Cleveland to the Lieutenant Governor of Connecticut. This post he held 1842-1844. Yet he was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate. After the end of his time as Lieutenant Governor, he is no longer politically have appeared. He died on 20 May 1855 in Winchester.
