Benjamin Douglas

Benjamin Douglas ( born April 3, 1816 in Northford, New Haven County, Connecticut, † June 26, 1891 ) was an American politician. In the years 1861 and 1962 he was Deputy Governor of the State of Connecticut.

Career

About the youth and education of Benjamin Douglas nothing is handed down. Later he worked with his brother William in the manufacture of pumps. He lived in Middletown, where he was mayor 1850-1853. Politically, he joined the Republican Party, founded in 1854. In June 1856 he was a delegate to the Republican National Convention in Philadelphia in part, was nominated on the John C. Frémont was the first presidential candidate of that party.

1860 Douglas was elected to the side of William Alfred Buckingham for Lieutenant Governor of Connecticut. This post he held 1861-1862 at the beginning of the Civil War. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate. About his life after his time as Lieutenant Governor, nothing is handed down. He died on 26 June 1894 and was buried in Middletown.
