William Field (American politician)

William Field ( born April 12, 1790 in Pomfret, Windham County, Connecticut, † September 20, 1878 in Stafford, Connecticut ) was an American politician. In the years 1855 and 1856 he was Deputy Governor of the State of Connecticut.

Career

About the youth and education of William Field, nothing is handed down. He worked for some time in the blacksmith's trade. During the British - American War of 1812 he served in a company of New London. Later, he embarked on a political career, in which he first joined President Andrew Jackson and his Democratic Party. Between 1836 and 1838 he held the office of the State Comptroller for Connecticut. In 1849 and 1850 he sat in the state Senate. In the meantime, he had joined the Free Soil Party.

1854 Field was elected to the side of William T. Minor for Lieutenant Governor of Connecticut. This post he held 1855-1856. Yet he was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate. After the end of his time as Lieutenant Governor, he is no longer politically have appeared. William Field was müttlerlicherseits a descendant of Roger Williams (1603-1683), the outstanding political figure in colonial Rhode Iceland. With his late wife Martha Pinney 1835 he had five children. He died on September 20, 1878 in Stafford.
