Schwesing

Schwesing (Danish: Svesing, Frisian: Swiasing ) is a municipality in the district of North Friesland on the west coast of Schleswig -Holstein.

Geography and transport

Schwesing located about 5 km east of Husum on the main road 201 from Husum in Schleswig.

Besides the village Schwesing the villages Am Pfahl, Augsburg, Castel Sant'Angelo, Spingwang and Süderholz lie in the municipality. The settlement Schwesing Station is not part of the municipality but the municipality Mildstedt.

History

The village was mentioned in writing in order for the first time in 1435 as " Swesum ". Schwesing has a church dating from the 13th century. The communion cup of Sweden Church Singer shows on the bottom of a boar and a stream, which may one interpretation of the name to " wild boar on Bach" permits. It may be in the arms but be a later interpretation of the name as well.

According to legend, the search for the place to build the church was left to two young bulls. These are coupled to each other and let them go. Where the Bulls camped for the night, they built the church. Bulls for locating a building site complies another church founding legends in Schleswig-Holstein.

After the annexation of Schleswig-Holstein by Prussia a country parish church was formed from the territory of the parish Schwesing. They included not only Schwesing the five village communities Ahrenviöl, Hochviöl, Immenstedt, Easter and Wester- Ohrstedt Ohrstedt.

1934 Kirchspielslandgemeinde community were dissolved and the village communities were autonomous rural communities. In the same year the Ahrenviölfeld was spun off as an independent municipality from Ahrenviöl. Hochviöl was incorporated into Viöl 1976.

In the district of Castel Sant'Angelo, the concentration camp Husum - Schwesing was established ( as a branch of Neuengamme concentration camp ) in the fall of 1944. The concentration camp prisoners should put the " Friesenwall ," a defense system against an Allied landing. On the site of the concentration camp now houses a memorial.

The Protestant church runs a kindergarten.

Economy

Schwesing has a golf course and in the district of Castel Sant'Angelo, a former military airfield in the village of hollow field. This property is used for one of the air defense missile group 26 as peace education position, on the other hand from Husum GmbH civil airport.
