Barkelsby

Barkelsby is a town on the peninsula Schwansen in the district of Rendsburg -Eckernförde in Schleswig -Holstein.

Name

Barkelsby was mentioned in 1542 as " Berkeißbu ", probably meaning " village of Biarnkil ", which is derived from the old Danish Biarnkil " BioRN " for "bear " and " ketil " for " boiler ".

Geography and transport

Barkelsby is 1 km NE of Eckernförde in South Schleswig part of the country. Southeast of the Schwansenstraße (B 203) runs from Eckernförde to Kappeln, west of the railway line from Kiel to Flensburg. To the church Barkelsby borders the municipalities Gammelby, Loose, Rieseby and Waabs.

The municipality consists of the villages: Böhnrüh, Castel Sant'Angelo, Hemmelmark forge, Rossee, Rosseemoor as well as the goods (sometimes including eponymous settlement ) Hemmelmark, Hohenstein, Mohr Berg, Neubarkelsby, and Wester show.
