Côtes de Provence AOC

The vineyards of Côtes de Provence is located in the eastern part of the wine-growing region of Provence and forms about four -fifths of which by far the largest area. In the west, close to the appellation Coteaux d' Aix -en- Provence and Coteaux Varois en Provence. The vineyards cover 20,000 hectares in the department of Alpes- Maritimes, Bouches -du -Rhône and Var and have since the 24th October 1977 on the status of an Appellation d' Origine ( AOC short ). Through three different soil types and a large number of authorized varieties are also a wide variety of wine styles found.

About 80 % of the total production, which amounts annually to around 900,000 hectoliters, are rosés. Thus, the Provence in France is by far the largest producer of rosé wines and produces about 8 % of world production quantity.

Varieties

  • Red wine and rosé wines are produced from at least two of the main types of Cinsault, Grenache, Mourvèdre, Syrah and Tibouren.
