Dingsheim

Dingsheim is a commune with 1310 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Bas- Rhin in the Alsace region. The community is a member of the Communauté de communes du Kocher mountain.

Location

Dingsheim lies in the cooker mountain between Pfulgriesheim and Mittelhausbergen, about nine kilometers north- west of Strasbourg, and is separated by the Souffel of Griesheim -sur- Souffel.

History

  • In Merovingian times, the place is named for the first time as Tunchinasheim.
  • During the Thirty Years War, the population was so decimated that the local authorities for an Immigration advertised. Many new residents came from Bavaria.
  • On the west side of the village there was the station of an optical telegraph between the relay stations at the Strasbourg cathedral tower and in Neugartheim, which enabled rapid for that time messaging between Strasbourg and Paris 1824-1852.
  • Between 1968 and 1972 a new housing estate was developed and built in the style of Le Corbusier, which was the trigger for the population tripled within a few years.
