Geography

The municipality is the village of Mecklenburg between Wismar and Schwerin Lake, one of the largest lakes. History

The Mecklenburg, the former stronghold of the church, is named for the entire landscape of Mecklenburg and for the state of Mecklenburg -Vorpommern.

The castle of the Slavic Abodrites was already called 965 in a report by the Arab merchant Ibrahim ibn Jacub as Nakons castle. As observed in an excavation from 1967 to 1969, it was created in the first half of the 7th century. From Mikel castle was built in the course of time Mecklenburg. King Otto III. mentioned on 10 September 995 first documented in the Mecklenburg. However, it was demolished in 1256 after several destructions, the material was used for the construction of the castle Fürstenhof in the then flourishing town of Wismar on the southernmost point of the Baltic Sea. Coat Explanation: The silver Wallburg in red, the former Slavic " Mecklenburg " that the bull's head in gold is the coat of arms of Mecklenburg removed, both crest parts indicate the place name Mecklenburg.

Church

Worth seeing is the simple back stone village church from the 14th century. District Agricultural Museum
