George W. Webber

George Washington Webber ( * November 25, 1825 in Newbury, Orange County, Vermont; † 15 January, 1900 in Ionia, Michigan ) was an American politician. Between 1881 and 1883 he represented the state of Michigan in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

George Webber attended the public schools of his home. In 1852 he moved to the Manistee County, Michigan, where he worked in agriculture, in the lumber business, craft and trade. In 1858 he moved to Ionia, where he was also active in the timber industry and trade. 1870 rose Webber also entered the banking industry. Since 1872 almost until his death he was president of the Second National Bank of Ionia. He also began a political career as a member of the Republican Party. In the years 1874 and 1875, he served as mayor of Ionia.

In the congressional elections of 1880 Webber was in the fifth electoral district of Michigan in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of John W. Stone on March 4, 1881. Since he resigned in 1882 to run again, he was able to complete only one term in Congress until March 3, 1883. After his retirement from the House of Representatives Webber took his previous activities on again. He died on January 15, 1900 in Ionia, where he was also buried.
